National Action Plan
Under the title ”YAP - Young Rights Action Plan“, the Austrian Federal Government set a process in motion which has reached an important milestone in the passage of the National Action Plan for the Rights of Children and Young people (NAP) on 22. November 2004. This process comprised a number of activities aimed at making Austria more child- and youth-friendly.
The starting point for this initiative in Austria was the ”World Summit for Children“, a special congress of the UN General Meeting on the theme of children, which took place in New York in 2002. A comprehensive international program of measures was passed, combined with the binding mandate for all states to follow up with National Action Plans. In concrete terms for Austria, this meant working out and implementing a comprehensive, systematic concept for the realisation of children’s rights.
